- Comment on Does it seem odd to track my lifespan? 2 days ago:
Just remember, if you enjoyed a time it’s not wasted. Being prolific is good and all, but don’t feel guilty for having fun. It’s not a waste.
- Comment on American wanting to move abroad, what's the best bet for an registered nurse? 4 days ago:
In Germany nurses are often not well payd IMO, but there are different kinds of nurses, so idk… there are strikes in the news from time to time. … but at least it’s okay and well accepted to strike in Germany

- Comment on I didn't know car bodies could be viable habitats. 2 weeks ago:
Lichens can survive in space. So everything outside that doesn’t get clean enough is potential lichen habitat.
- Comment on How does DNA decide the shape of the body? 2 weeks ago:
to add to what others wrote: cells also signal a bit with each other. they tell each other when they are ready or it’s time to do something, like detach or self destruct, so a flipper can split into fingers.
AFAIK all signals for the formation of a human body are chemical, even though some cells can also produce electricity and light.
- Comment on I don't really know how to deal with coworkers who emotionally dump their issues on me 2 weeks ago:
the very christian guy sounds like he’s trying to cover something up. may be closeted gay with an affair with a migrant or so idk. he’s preemptively telling you his cover story, so when the truth reaches you, you’ll be like “very Christian racist guy would never”.
the other racist ones could be of the sort “if i don’t get disputed, they are silently agreeing”. you have multiple options to deal with that. for example, telling HR, who may be interested in protecting the company from a racist image, or you could mention to coworkers, you suspect they are racist. both could lead to them leaving the company. speaking from personal experience, but i’m in EU.

- Comment on Is it true that addicts never stop being addicts, they just replace their addiction? 3 weeks ago:
it’s not true. i was a heavy smoker and quit and didn’t replace it. it was tough. the temptation for a smoke took like 5 to 10 years to disappear.
i never drank much alcohol, but decided to quit that too, after i realized i hadn’t had a drink in several months and wanted to see where it’s going.
i know several others who quit one thing or another and didnpt replace it. replacing can be a coping mechanism though. if you replace with something that’s more easy to quit, it’s a good way out.
- Comment on Does anyone speak hairdresser? I need help communicating. 4 weeks ago:
i used to just say the millimeters i want and tell them to only use clippers. no blades. no scissors.
but i switched to one length overall and since covid i got my own clipper and do it myself. if the clipper is good it takes like 5 minutes.

- Comment on Why do we have to do the health insurance company's job for them? 5 weeks ago:
Yeah, I’m in EU and I have never ever contacted my health insurance since the day I chose it. They just send me new insurance cards every couple of years and once they sent a letter that said they have an app that lets me get doctors appointments more easy etc.

- Comment on Is it normal to forget things from the previous day often? 1 month ago:
apart from mot enough sleep, another cause can be if you have too much routine. the human brain compresses and deletes everything that’s daily routine. like brushing teeth, having breakfast, etc. you always brush teeth and have breakfast, so why remember every instance, when the brain can just remember that you generally brush teeth and have breakfast. if most of your life is routine like that, you will forget a lot of it. you can add an exotic fruit to your breakfast and you will remember it a bit better, except if you start doing it every day.

- Comment on What produced the old dead channel tv static audiovisuals on tvs? 1 month ago:
the effect can change slightly if you unplug or touch the antenna or the TVs socket for it, because it may change what contributes to the signal noise and how much. It can for example become brighter and the pitch of the audio noise can change.
