I don’t think that’s the assumption. This sounds like someone planted in their head that there’s a shortage of everything and Americans can’t get things because foreigners do. The thing about studying abroad is, that Americans do it in other countries too. It’s an international exchange. If Harvard stopped taking foreign students, they would indeed study in other countries and less Americans could study in those countries as a result, keeping the total number the same.

Could be they appropriated it, but it’s actually the X-Men symbol from their costumes at least in lots of comics and animated TV showd. See in this poster, for example: sportsposterwarehouse.com/…/the-uncanny-x-men-mar…

You can’t ban all useful things that can also be used as weapons. It’s too many. New ones are invented as you read this. You gonna forbid baseball bats? Bricks? Tree branches? Tools? This can’t work.
You gotta draw the line at things that have been created to be used as a weapon.

- Comment on How can open source projects get acquired by third parties? 4 days ago:
if it’s tied to a domain name, that domain can be acquired.
the code that is open source stays like that, but if they get all original authors on board, they can release a new version that is not open source; basically a closed source fork.
this is because the original authors can re-release their intellectual property under different licenses as much as they want, but then it’s out there with multiple licenses and people can choose which version they want to use as long as they respect the license that comes with that version.

I think this is the one case where you should use hanged instead of hung, but I’m not a native speaker, so not 100% sure.

I loved DVD-RAM. I could just mount them in Linux and copy backups on it. They are even reusable, like you could just delete a super old backup and put a new one on it. I think I stopped using them, because of capacity.

Bathroom cupboard is normal, except in shared bathrooms like in boarding schools, military or gyms.

I think you’re mixing up territorial disputes between predators and hunting of prey. For example, in Alien humans are mostly the prey and in those cases the aliens are very quiet. They make noises when being attacked though.
It is like that in many movies. When a predator is disturbed by another predator or large animal/object like a human or a human in a car, it may decide to make noise in order to defend it’s territory without having to risk injury.

hyprland has useful features for a tiling compositor, like a special container you can toggle that goes in front of your workspace and is easy to customise and set up.
However, i think wayfire, even though much harder to set up (it needs a proper config and some helper apps or it’s just empty and you can’t even launch anything), has cooler effects and has a simple tiling plugin.
Also Gnome/mutter with the Forge extension is better than both, because you can optionally use just the mouse to drag windows at the title bar and drop them in a tiling frame of your choice. This is very helpful when your left hand is full of cheeto dust etc… Gnome also has the extensions Burn My Windows, Focus, Desktop Cube and Dash to Panel
which get you cool effects as well. It also has a Tweaks tool and the extension Just Perfection, which give you additional customization options. Gnome is very easy to set up and usable OOTB, even though not fine tuned. Also it is still backwards compatible to X11, in case you need that one app that looks crap in wayland (looking at you, Java)

- Comment on How important is it that cans are clean when i put them in the recycling. 5 weeks ago:
In theory you don’t need to clean them at all, because they will hose them down at tge recycling plant and also some residue will incinerate when they melt them.
However, until it’s colkected, dirty trash will attract rats and insects and it will smell disgusting, especially in summers. I would recommend cleaning it a bit, if you can.

Yeah, there’s a lot of pists like “Version X of program Y has been released” or other usekess tech stuff, but that’s just like 20 users. Once you have blocked them, the good stuff is easier to find.

The All feed seems to have hundreds of posts throughout the day. I also have a lot of communities blocked, just because I’m not interested in them. There’s still coming a lot of other stuff through. Lemmy is just amazing with lots if content.

I browse the All feed sorted by New and just block/filter everything I’m not interested in. There’s always new stuff.
