- Comment on are my eating habits preparing to work out stupid? 8 hours ago:
It also depends a bit on what you eat. Candy bars for example will have more energy than you need long before you feel full up.
Eating right before you sleep can be a problem. It can reduce the quality of the sleep as well as the quality of the digestion. Additionally, you move less while asleep, so basically the body has no other choice but to store the extracted carbohydrates as fat.
- Comment on Finale drops on Saturday 16 hours ago:
I hate that it has characters that do a lot of stupid things, just like real people.
The combat scenes are awesome though.
- Comment on Not disparaging the dead or anything. But why does it seem in the US we are expected to feel sorry for a person who overdoses on illegal drugs? Didn't they make the choice knowing the outcome? 1 day ago:
Overdosing can be a suicide attempt. Sometimes however, the product is stronger than expected or takes longer than expected to have an effect and that causes accidental overdose.
In both cases mentally healthy people feel sorry for the person, because they were either in a tough spot and saw suicide as the only solution or they tried to feel good and had an accident instead. Some mentally healthy people supress their sadness though, which is a coping mechanism to not be overwhelmed by sorrow. They still feel it a bit, but focus on distractions etc.
- Comment on It's insidious 3 days ago:
There is a lot of dumb stuff, but also a bit very cool space pew pew, very charismatic actors and occasionally Odo emerging from a wall panel, being one step ahead of everyone.
Also, the versatile actors playing different characters are awesome, if you know about it. Oh and the mirror universe.
- Comment on If someone dies unexpectedly, how do you find out? 3 days ago:
Back in the days when printed newspapers were common, some folks would check the obituaries regularly.
Always hoping to find your arch nemesis in there 😅

- Comment on How screwed would one be if their email provider shuts down? 6 days ago:
Depends on how much you rely on it. If your contacts can’t phone or otherwise contact you for your new address, they’re gone.
If the services you use don’t mail you OTP codes on every log in, you can still log in using your old email and update it.
You can also contact customer support of some services and have them change it, using other ways to autheticate, e.g. physical letters with generated OTP codes.
- Comment on what can I use to cushion my knee when exercising with it on the floor so it doesn't hurt? 6 days ago:
you could get a cheap foam thermal mat and cut out the size you need. beware though, as it will roll up by itself when too small.
- Comment on Anon tries programming in Java 1 week ago:
No, Java has lots of merits. For example, once you know layout managers, you can have a resizable GUI app in no time. It’s the exact opposite of arranging things pixel by pixel. You just define “I want a grid of these buttons south and a big text field in the center” and Java will do the rest. I whip up apps like this for the silliest things, like noting which dungeon has what rotating boss this week in a game, so it’s more convinient than noting it in a text file.
- Comment on what should I consider before buying winter running gloves? 1 week ago:
There are gloves with things on them, so you can still operate touch screens.
Various sailing gloves come without the index finger and thumb covered.
- Comment on is "oh boy" considered a gendered term? 1 week ago:
I suggest “By Grabthar’s Hammer!” 🤓
- Comment on What would it feel like passing through a wormhole? 1 week ago:
Let’s assume a big stable wormhole and the gravitational forces of surrounding supporting objects are balanced perfectly, so a human can pass through in a small space capsule in the center.
In this scenario, you would just see the region of the other side twice and the space in between, a circle around the hole, stretched until you’re going through. While going through, some objects on the outside would look stretched.
If it’s not perfectly balanced, you won’t survive going through without being squished or torn. If you come too close to avsurrounding supporting object, you’ll get slingshotted away or will fall into them.

Hitler didn’t just kill Jews, which invalidates Anons conclusion.

I hate your coworker
- Comment on do you think lemmy will ever be popular? 2 weeks ago:
I prefer social media where people post because they have content, need help or want ro discuss something, not just post to be hip or the site is popular.
- Comment on do you think lemmy will ever be popular? 2 weeks ago:
I hope not. Imagine all the crazies.
- Comment on Is there a reminder bot on Lemmy? 2 weeks ago:
let’s say you’re on an android phone. you click share, if possible with the url of your home instance, pick calendar, choose a date and save. that seems much better than controlling a bot.
- Comment on Unsubscribe? Nope! We'll Just Add You To An "Unsubscribers" List! 2 weeks ago:
That ship has sailed, but you have to sign up with a mail account that offers throw away addresses (like yahoo! mail or others). They just put the mails from all throwaways also into you main mailbox. If later you can’t ubsubscribe, you can just delete the throwaway. Only problem is, for replies you have to use the mail providers way (i.e. webmailer) so your client doesn’t reply with your main address. But I found it very rare I reply to mails from subscriptions.

yahoo mail also offers disposable email addresses
- Comment on If I was a secret immortal how long could I keep the same US ID for before I get taken away for study. I'm thinking 150 years. 1 month ago:
When your id says you’re 100 and you look 21 it’s going to cause issues.
You can use this to your advantage, by claiming it’s some sort of annoying mixup and it happened before. You can use this to sneak new info into the system when they need your help correcting the obvious mistake that you’re not 100 and get your dates reset.
- Comment on I found a weird IP address on my network that had transmitted an insanely small amount of data. I put the address in my browser and got this. what the heck am I looking at? 1 month ago:
Yeah and giving a potential attacker your account details while trying to log on?
- Comment on Why does my beard grow back faster after shaving? 1 month ago:
AFAIK, apart from drugs, only stress and malnutrition affects hair growth speed. Stress can increase cortisol levels, which can lead to faster hair growth, but chronic stress and malnutrition may lead to hair loss.
- Comment on Is setting a box outside a viable trapping strategy for felines? 1 month ago:
at first they won’t be drawn to it, but once there is a cute cat inside, the women won’t be able to resist petting it. the box is bait for the bait 😉

- Comment on Shopping website search is terrible 1 month ago:
I work in a company that helps shop owners with their shops. Some shop software has bad search as a default. You need a skilled person to configure it. We do it for some, but others don’t care. And then there’s people who think they can do it better, with varying results.
I guess that’s why Amazon search is so bad. It really feels like some boss ordered his tech staff around to add too many things, like substitutions, translations etc., and now it’s crap.
- Comment on How do you deal with it when you download library source code from github and need to change all the header includes to actually be correct? 1 month ago:
i don’t. i install the dev package of my distro and didn’t run into a case where it’s not available yet. also, i make fake packages for my project with only dependencies, to install those things, so i can uninstall that fake package when i don’t need the project any more and don’t have to keep track what dev deps on my system are still required
