- Comment on 'My personal failure was being stumped': Gabe Newell says finishing Half-Life 2: Episode 3 just to conclude the story would've been 'copping out of [Valve's] obligation to gamers' 6 days ago:
I’ve played pretty much all but the most recent. They have their ups and downs. The first was almost like a proof of concept. Kinda boring, but the story sets up the sequels. There was a good overall story arc in the Desmond/Ezio trilogy (Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations) that hasn’t been duplicated since.
AC3 was a bit of a breath of fresh air, being part of the American revolution, but it wasn’t for everyone. The story was being deviated from earlier games too much. AC4 is, for me, still the best single-player pirate game out there. It continues with Rogue. Both of those games I highly enjoyed.
Unity (Paris during French Revolution) and Syndicate (Victorian London) both have fantastic maps and character design, but gameplay and story just wasn’t as interesting to me. The series was feeling stale.
To Ubisoft’s credit, they knew that too and entirely revamped the gameplay and menu system starting with Origins (Ancient Egypt), then Odyssey (Ancient Greece), and Valhalla (Vikings during 9th Century). Valhalla was really fun. I love how they change certain villages up throughout the year… adding festivals/challenges depending on when you play. The maps were just getting too huge and overwhelming at this point.
I play the games now mainly for exploration. Gameplay and story are secondary as they aren’t as interesting anymore. They really put a lot of detail into their surroundings and do their research on history, whether real or fantastical. It’s escapism to another land in another time.
Ubisoft is not Rockstar. The story is no longer the reason to play these games. They are forgettable. The Desmond/Ezio storyline of the earlier games are no more. However, we don’t have to wait several years to play a sequel.
Valhalla was the only one that I paid full price for since it was 2020 and we were still basically trapped in our homes, but definitely got my money’s worth. They seemed to take more time making Mirage so I’ll check that out eventually. They are remastering some of their old games so I’d play those over the dated originals.
The Far Cry series has a similar feeling for me, but with a first person perspective. New lands to explore, new stories and characters, but some are better than others.
- Comment on Random Screenshots of my Games #25 - Vampire Survivors 5 weeks ago:
I liked the part when I was playing very far into the game and I basically had so many enemies and explosions on screen I couldn’t even see my character anymore… and then my wife came into the room, saw the chaos and didn’t understand how I could still play or how it was even fun.
Good times.

Region meaning country/continent? One of them lives across the country.

Same household only? Why can’t they just allow a certain number of people in your “family” use it? I have no kids, but I’d like to allow my siblings or in-laws use my games. They live in different cities.

They made an animated web series that follows Kenway:

They made a similar style game with Assassin’s Creed: Rogue and with different characters. I enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as the original.

And IV will likely get a remake:

I stopped watching during the 7th season. Maybe I’ll go back to finish it up, but it just felt stale even though they tried to mix things up a bit at the start.

Teeth (whole jaw) and arms. Michonne did this to travel around as their smell would cover hers so other walkers couldn’t detect her.

You do realize there are thousands of people who try to earn a living making the content people consume. The majority are not billionaires, they are not millionaires. Many are trying to get by… the “common folk” you speak of.

99% of people who pirate don’t want to pay for their entertainment. They’ll come up with any excuse as to why they think it’s justified to make them feel better. “F corporations and their drm, this will teach them.”
The other 1% is for when it’s not available by legitimate means or if by chance something they did pay for and was then taken away or something wasn’t working through legitimate ways, then I get it… but again, that’s for 1%.
Another option is to not download at all.

Why pirate games at all? I never understood that.
If games (or movies) are too expensive or not good enough to buy, why download them at all?

This is why we need copyright expirations. Disney would most likely have sued with a cease and desist to remove it.
Does it use the likeness of old Disney properties? Yes… but it doesn’t hurt their image. Doesn’t take any profit away from them.
It’s also not a cash grab like those crappy Winnie the Pooh slasher movies. This pays homage to the art style of the time.
The only thing they could have done differently was use something different than a mouse… like what Cuphead did. Studio MDHR came up with unique characters and it paid off for them by getting their own animated series and merchandising. I don’t think Mouse P.I. for Hire will get the same type of deals, but time will tell.

I have well over 300 games on Epic Games Store. I have played zero. I don’t know why I keep getting the free games every week, but Steam is where I keep buying. Eventually, I’ll play something on there.

- Comment on So is the global IT crash fixed yet? 3 months ago:
It’s funny. I didn’t have a lot of issues with our company. Three machines, one server. I deleted the bad update on three. When I got to the fourth, it was already fixed because the user just restarted his machine many times.

I am not a fan of The Big Bang Theory by any means, but removing the laugh track on any show will make the jokes less funny due to the pacing for edits. They hold on shots longer to add in laughs… this makes for long uncomfortable silences when laughter is removed. And timing is very important in comedy.
If someone removes the laugh track, they should also remove the long silences to give it a better chance. I don’t think it would help TBBT much for me, but comedy is subjective.

I never had an issue with other games at the time… just this one. Played many Mario and Zelda games and the camera was fine on those.
On a side note, what’s weird is that I used to always invert my vertical camera for every game, but all of a sudden, my brain changed on some game I was playing and now I no longer need to do that for anything else.
- Comment on Beyond Good & Evil remaster arrives next week with "improved graphics", new in-game content, and more 5 months ago:
The last time I played this game I felt like the controls were off. Like the camera moving left and right were going in the wrong direction compared to other games. I couldn’t change them in options. Hope they make that change because it was very awkward to play.

- Comment on Cable or adapter? 5 months ago:
In my experience, in IT, cables are usually the way to go over adapters. Adapters tend to break more often than cables.
Someone else may offer a more thorough differing opinion… like perhaps a very high quality HDMI cable with a high quality adapter may be better than a mediocre off-brand standalone cable, but if the prices/brand are the same… I’d stick with the single cable.
Before USB-C became standard, we stuck with HDMI cables and then had different adapters on hand just for convenience, but if we knew a cable is going to be used in the same equipment for a long time, we’ll try for the single cable.

It just sounds like you are saying that the original Castlevania came out a quarter of a century ago, which would be 1999.

Trailer looked interesting to me. Last performance of Kevin Conroy as Batman too, if I’m not mistaken. The Arkham series are part of my favorite games. Was hoping this would’ve been a decent continuation of that.
