Re: Swimming Strong maybe. During the face down portion definitely, but when they turn their head the skin’s still wet, however your brain definitely knows that there’s air to breathe, probably automatically overriding that reflex.
RE: bobbing Kinda. Especially small children and toddlers are incapable of overriding that reflex, meaning they can and will “drown” when that part is submerged.
The bobbing motion is just more efficient (for 99% of untrained swimmers).
You’ll do the same when exhausted while swimming.
Your body generally isn’t buoyant enough in a normal swimming position. Which means you’ll want to keep your lungs as full as possible, resulting in quick exhale, inhale, and then recouping (and sinking) while being lighter, requiring less force to resurface. - Comment on If I stick my head out a car window or a gust of wind hits my face it's like my throat closes and I can't breathe. It’s called the “diving reflex”. There’s a small area right between your upper lip and nose, that, when getting wet, triggers your body to stop breathing and slows down your heartbeat. IIRC it’s something all mammals have, but you can ‘override’ it. It’s pretty uncomfortable at first, especially the first breath, but you can train yourself to ignore it after a while.

- Comment on How do I figure out where flies are entering my house? 17 hours ago:
Get those sticky paper strips. You might have to wait a few generations, but after they “hatch” they don’t immediately reproduce, but instead look for food first. That’s the small window where you have to get them.
Importantly, you have to keep the strips up at least 1 “cycle” after you’ve caught the last fly! - Comment on It's always for your safety 19 hours ago:
Motorcyclists are so much more likely to hurt/kill themselves in an accident, compared to car drivers who are much more likely to injure/kill someone else while only sustaining minor injuries.
I consider it a rather strong incentive to ride safely.
Furthermore, riding a bike is a much more involved activity compared to driving, which makes distracted driving a lot less likely. - Comment on Valid point 1 day ago:
Some people just straight up don’t carry cash, so it’s only 2 cards that most people need in their day to day, which fit in your phone case ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Get a fairphone. I’ve had 2 (3 and 5) and no issues at all. Pixels are nice too, but I’ve had 2 friends with batteries dying.

The original unit is m tho… Mm is just such a rare unit that most don’t know it, and it often gets confused with mm.
You’re using the smaller unit (mg - dividing by 1000) and using a k (multiplying by 1000) to shorten a number.

Why does a clock need more features. It tells the time. MAYBE add an alarm to it so you don’t have to have 2 apps. that’s it. It’s not a calendar, it’s not a task-tracker, and the last time I checked we still have 24 hour days.
The only updates it needs are UI updates (which should be system-side anyways) and if the time source changes, which are a few bytes at most.
- Comment on Battlefield 6 players are crying out for a 'real' server browser, and it's about time we demanded the basic FPS feature that Call of Duty killed 10 months ago:
The community “servers” aren’t persistent though. They’ll only stay online as long as someone is online and using that instance. If that last person leaves the server shuts down - as far as we know, it still seems a like murky, but without being able to rent servers I can’t imagine them just leaving all of them online for free

I have two Fenix lights that both have 2 buttons, one on/off and a second mode selector.
The LD12 is perfect as a daily although the side/mode button is kinda awkward to use, the main button is perfect though.
My PD35R is a bigger one that’s really bright, but also too big for normal carry, so I only use it for work when it’s too dusty to see. It has 2 buttons on the back, one small one for mode selection and a nice big one to turn it on/off. - Comment on Tesla workers in Germany complain about home visits from their bosses 1 year ago:
Obviously the physical visit itself isn’t illegal, the employer is still another civilian that can knock on however many doors they want to. But as soon as the motivation behind it is to pressure the employee to return to work despite having an AU, or to doubt the validity of the AU, it violates the previously mentioned laws. The intent is what’s making the difference. Depending on how the employer phrases their requests, this might also violate §240 StGB.
- Comment on Tesla workers in Germany complain about home visits from their bosses 1 year ago:
It would fall under harassment by your employer.
As the Entgeltfortzahlungsgesetz (Entgfg) § 5 Abs. 1 handles the duties and responsibilities of the employee, therefore limiting the employer. A Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung (short AU) (certificate of incapacity for work) is always complete and full, without any compromise towards the employee. So you don’t even have to answer your phone at all, much less open your door.
There are ways for your employer to officially doubt the validity of the AU with the health insurance, that then can, but don’t have to, order a medical examination to confirm the AU. Based on Sozialgesetzbuch, Fünftes Buch (SGB V), § 275 Abs. 1a Buchstabe a)
This is an official inquiry though, so any and all suspicions about unhealthy work environments would be officially recorded and investigated, which in this case I imagine would be pretty bad for Tesla.
