To be fair, in 1996 both the Senate and the House were controlled by republicans, those the bill passed both chambers by an overwhelmingly bipartisan majority. Even if Clinton wanted to veto the bill, Congress would have still been able to push it through.
- Comment on US | Two guys hated using Comcast, so they built their own fiber ISP 6 days ago:
If they expand then they’ll end up just another evil corporate ISP, and/or if they start getting large enough one of the other ISPs will buy them up.
They don’t need to expand, there just needs to be many more small, ultra local providers.

They are just a troll, trying to get people to pay attention to them. Blocking them makes it so you won’t accidentally interact with them again.

Just block him, no need to reply to him.
- Comment on My son got Nikes so he doesn't get teased. 1 week ago:
Nah, you pick your battles. If the kid wants Nikes because that’s what everyone else has, then get him Nikes. I heard 10 years ago that Sketchers are for toddlers and old people… and from what I’ve seen that perception hasn’t changed.
Like it or not, we are social animals and fitting in is important, especially for children. When my daughter was a toddler we made it a point to NOT expose her to Paw Patrol because it is just blatant targeted marketing to children. It was a point of pride for us to be able to walk past Paw Patrol branded apple sauce and not have her begging for it. And then we sent her to preschool and after the first week she came home sad that all the other kids were playing Paw Patrol but she didn’t know any of the characters, so she couldn’t play. That was a real shitty day for me as a parent because that was my failing. We started letting her watch Paw Patrol (as well as other non-PBS kids shows) because pop culture is important. Same with fashion… not every kid needs to wear Nike, but they should be aware of what the trends are and have a say in what they get.
- Comment on Trump Administration, Reversing Itself, Won’t Rewrite a Ban on Asbestos 1 week ago:
This is what I hate about calling him Taco… he chickens out on the shit he needs to chicken out on. Let’s not dare him into doing stupid shit like enacting tariffs and reversing the asbestos ban. Also, why the fuck was it not banned LONG before Biden’s term?

I mean, if we’re truly keeping count then I think we’re up to WW5 at this point.

- Comment on Warner Bros. Discovery Lost $11.5 Billion in 2024. So How Did CEO David Zaslav Exceed His Bonus Targets? 1 month ago:
They lost $11.5 Billion, however that was offset by denying their employees their annual bonuses since the company lost money over the year. By not paying out he bonuses to the employees they actually saved over $12 Billion, therefore Zaslav was able to get his $500 Million bonus.
See, everyone (important) wins!
- Comment on Holocaust survivor burned in Colorado terror attack speaks out: ‘What the hell is going on in our country?’ 1 month ago:
I’m going to have to disagree with you that she isn’t a Holocaust survivor. She spent years dodging fascists. She was a Jew in Europe during WW2, she’s a survivor.
She isn’t a concentration camp survivor, but she did survive the Holocaust.

- Comment on ‘Elden Ring’ Movie in the Works From ’Civil War’ Director Alex Garland, A24 1 month ago:
I don’t think I’d consider Detective Pikachu or Sonic to be animated. Just like I wouldn’t consider Fallout or Last of Us to be movies.
- Comment on ‘Elden Ring’ Movie in the Works From ’Civil War’ Director Alex Garland, A24 1 month ago:
I don’t know, just because the video game isn’t real doesn’t mean that the movie isn’t based off of a video game. I think it just shows that the reason most video game movies fail isn’t because the movie is bad, but because the fans are too harsh. If Wreck It Ralph replaced the main characters with characters from Mario but still had the same basic plot I don’t think it would have been as well received.
- Comment on ‘Elden Ring’ Movie in the Works From ’Civil War’ Director Alex Garland, A24 1 month ago:
First, it’s A24 and they put out amazing movies .
Second, Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros Movie, and I’m not sure if it would count, but Wreck It Ralph are all good video game movies.
- Comment on 'Sesame Street' Streaming Rights Head to PBS Kids, Netflix 1 month ago:
I was being a bit hyperbolic, but my point was that Apple has put out some incredible shows and it seems that no one ever talks about Apple TV.
- Comment on 'Sesame Street' Streaming Rights Head to PBS Kids, Netflix 1 month ago:
If it was on Apple TV no one would ever know about it.
I just don’t understand Apple TV… they put out some AMAZING shows, but there’s hardly ever any buzz about them.

I felt that Snagglepuss was even better. I don’t want to give any of the story away, but he’s a counterculture playwright in LA Hollywood during the McCarthy era red scare of the early 50s.
It’s an amazingly beautiful book and story.

- Comment on Bob Iger Says Disney’s Film Slate in Next 18 Months Is Its Best Since 2019 2 months ago:
I have to say that the Mulan movie was pretty great, it just shouldn’t have been marketed as a ‘live action remake’ but instead just another version.
Onward, Soul and Frozen II were also solid. Onward and Soul being released in covid and dealing with death/missing loved ones, was difficult though.
- Comment on Why do people insist on not answering ALL the questions in an email or text message? 3 months ago:
Try being more direct, you can still write out your whole email with the full description, but put in a section somewhere that’s easy to see that’s labeled as “QUESTIONS” and then enumerate the questions you want answered. I often will have the whole section bold and further highlight important words in red. This makes it easier for people to answer inline on the reply and helps ensure questions weren’t missed.
The truth is, most people don’t like the ‘email’ part of the job and may only check it once or twice a day and I’d most likely just skimming through several messages and not fully devoting much time to each message. By making it easier for them to reply you end up with a better result.
You can also use this when you expect someone to take action from your email. Let them know precisely what you want them to do, and make it very easy to find ‘The Ask’.

- Comment on Teachers warn AI is impacting students' critical thinking 3 months ago:
I never said that it was a new thing, what I’m saying is that the introduction of AI in the classroom is the perfect way to bring critical thinking back to the classroom. That’s one thing that AI is good at… getting people to realize that something they’ve just been told might not be 100% true.
- Comment on Teachers warn AI is impacting students' critical thinking 3 months ago:
It is impacting their critical thinking because the teachers aren’t teaching the kids how to use AI!
My kids came home talking about an interview she did with one of her heroes. She knew all kinds of facts, including what type of dogs her hero has. I had to explain to my 8 year old that an AI doesn’t know very much, but it will never tell you that it doesn’t know something.
I don’t mind that my kid’s school uses AI for learning, but I am pissed at how they are using it the exact wrong way. It should go side by side with learning critical thinking.
