In 'Merka we call men who abuse women and treat everyone else like idiots "a creative maverick of an individual." See Ernest Hemingway, Bob Fosse, J. D. Salinger for examples.

It’s sad how many people are willing to gloss over horrific treatment of women by men. And as a man myself, I feel like I don’t even know the half of it, even though I’ve had other men disclose to me some of the most atrocious opinions of women.
I read the book “Everyday Sexism” last year to try to understand more, and damn what an eye opener. It also tracks with things I’ve heard from my friends who are women, sadly.
