What the hell is this season. I don’t remember so many blowouts like this in recent years. or is my memory crap.
I dug into this a little. You’re not wrong. It’s not a monster trend though. The 1st place team getting blown out probably makes the blowouts seem a little more salient (and frequent) than they are.
Through where we are now in this season (562 games in), there have been 10 games with point differentials of 40 points or more. This compares with 5 such games by this time in each of the past two years. (The season before that started without fans in arenas, and before that it was the bubble year.)
How about a game like Bucks-Celtics where Boston was down by almost 40 at the half (38-75) and played the bench in 2nd half so final score was closer?
118 - 56 end of the third. Might be the most lopsided score I’ve ever seen and we have a whole quarter to go.
They were up so much at the half I turned away to do some other things knowing they’d probably win but maybe the gap would close a bit.
But I guess not…winning by 62.

I know the Celtics were on the 2nd night of a b2b but damn that was a blowout. Seems the bucks had more defensive focus tonight but hard to tell from just a half against a tired team.
