Raptors holding in there - trailing by 1 at HT. And Scottie Barnes is back!

Some less intense court designs for the In-Season Tourney would be nice

Was that a dirty play from Tatum at the end there?
- Comment on [Game Threads] 18 NOV 2024 3 days ago:
Jakob Poeltl is balling out these days, when the Raptors have only RJ Barrett and not Scottie Barnes or Immanuel Quickley. Jak’s playing the best ball of his career!

Miles Turner is injured. Against a team whose best centre is Pascal Siakam (undersized), the Raptors offence looks pretty nice

Something like 20 lead changes. I didn’t expect the game to be so close
- Comment on NBA considering tournament-style format for 2025 All-Star Game: Sources 6 days ago:
Like 3 or 4 years ago, the ASG commemorating Kobe, where each quarter was first to 24 points, and each team had picked a charity that won if they won the quarter. That was surprisingly good basketball and probably the most defense I’ve seen in an ASG. Last year’s game where both sides score 150 points was terrible. The NBA coming at things again with a quantity vs quality approach (more games!) even though so many star players are injured rn

WTF, why only 1 game? What’s going on, Adam?

Lotsa injured teams. Adam Silver specialty. Lol jk but 🧐…

Dame is out with a ref-caused injury. Dame was looking the other way and sustained a minor eye injury, I think, when he walked into a ref waving his arms outwards to indicate “no basket”. Arguably Dame wasn’t paying attention, but the idea of a ref-caused injury is pretty novel

Bucks are in black uniforms on a blue court obviously

It didn’t feel by design to me. Raps felt overmatched without Scottie, who left due to injury

I’d like to take this moment to congratulate the Raptors on their uniquely purple court. Raptors fans are going to have to try to find wins this season wherever we can 😅

That top left is TWolves. Not pretty

Maybe the only highlight was that Chris Boucher had a very good game
- Comment on Sources: Embiid's participation to be investigated 4 weeks ago:
Fair enough. I don’t disagree with your point, and I didn’t know he broke an actual policy. I just think the status quo is dumb. But I also might not know enough about the League’s current policies, etc 😅
- Comment on Sources: Embiid's participation to be investigated 4 weeks ago:
I’m not really an Embiid fan. But I think he’s in the camp with Kawhi of guys that have such a long track record of injury-proneness that I give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to load management type stuff. I don’t think him saying that he might not play a back-to-back again should be scandalous.
I think the league ought to clarify what their redline issues are and what the consequences are. Otherwise, I think players have a right to health and teams have a right to being strategic (e.g, rest Embiid in the regular season for playoff availability)

Knicks are their only threat for #1 spot. But yeah, Celts vs Thunder in the finals? I’m in. Re: Celts, It’s been a while since a team ran it back successfully the next year, even past the semis the 2nd year
- Comment on GAME THREAD Tuesday 22-10-2024 Season Opening Night 4 weeks ago:
I didn’t watch, but Celts feel like a lock for #1 in the East. Not a hot take, but it’s been a while since you could call it so early

I’m curious to see what they do with the design of the floors for the in-season tournament. They have a corporate sponsor now, so that in itself probably means they’ll be less ‘busy’ this year.
Speaking of floors, I really liked the LED court at the all-star weekend. It wasn’t used that much. I believe they used it to indicate which rack players in the 3-point contests selected as their extra-points rack. I think they had some stats or visuals presented on the floor another time; I think maybe some special effects type stuff around breaks in play, perhaps. My memory’s rusty lol. But they didn’t use it much. I’d kind of like to see ‘power up spots’ appear on the floor during the all-star game, at least until we get a competitive and enjoyable ASG
- Comment on Paul George says playing for the Clippers instead of the Lakers felt like he was playing for the "B Team." 3 months ago:
Man that’s salty. PG’s got to be pretty happy with his new situation. He got 4 years, I think. He’s in the easier Eastern Conference, on probably the 2nd best team on paper. As a Raptors fan I often relitigate Kawhi defecting back home from a probable run it back championship
- Comment on Cavs, Evan Mobley agree to 5-year extension 3 months ago:
Agreed. They should include % of some cap/threshold because that’s what matters from a roster construction perspective ($ left for other players) and it’s more helpful for comparisons across time. That “up to $269 million” probably includes $50 million on the premise he makes all-NBA this year. That’s the case with Scottie Barnes’ new deal (225 or 275 mil) and they were in the same draft class
- Comment on NBA Cup 2024: Dates, Groups, Format, More for In-Season Tournament 4 months ago:
Great post, thanks! As a Raptors fan, I’m glad they didn’t do groups based on divisions again, given how deep our division is (Boston, Philly, NYC, Brooklyn).
One-game-take-all championships in sports like basketball that are traditionally best-of-seven in North America are generally fun. I’ll probably watch the in-season tournament (IST) championship game. I’m curious to see if the basketball court designs are as visually busy as last year. I felt that was sort of the biggest IST headline last year. A year later, the IST seems as unimpactful to me as an NBA fan as I imagined it would be when it was announced. It’s just for TV deals and advertising dollars in my eyes. I’m curious if other NBA fans are more passionate about the IST than I am. Maybe if your team is better that makes it more exciting. They’re just another of the 82 regular season games to me, and winning the IST doesn’t come close to the impressiveness of winning a championship
