Comparing, visually, today’s modern NBA broadcast and the way things were shot 20-30 years ago; I believe that today’s visual presentation of the league is bland to watch and too brightly lit. I think this takes away from the game a bit because it feels less like the games carry less weight. This is probably a dumb take, but I think the games would look better if you could barely see the crowd and the lighting was more dramatic.
Thoughts?
Honestly nowadays I really hate the reflections on the court of the arena lights. I don’t remember them being this bad, I think it’s because the ads around the court have started changing and flashing.
Yeah probably. Sometimes I’ll tune into a game and it almost seems washed out, like the colors don’t pop out because everything is so overwhemlinly bright.
But also there’s bigger issues with the game itself that cause the games to feel more bland and like they carry less weight. And on top of that, when Curry and LeBron retire I think the NBA will continue to see declining viewership. The current superstars don’t seem to have the same star power.

Interesting question. I’m a new fan so I don’t really have a historical perspective. I’ll see what I think when next I tune into a game, tomorrow probably. Broadcast brightness probably varies by arena and possibly TV broadcaster though, no? (I say possibly TV broadcaster because I suspect all TV networks licensed to broadcast the game get the same camera feeds and probably use the same ones)

Definitely varies by arena and court color, Cavs tends to look washed out a little bit imo.
Warriors games are bright AF.
By broadcaster I haven’t noticed a particular difference with the colors, but there’s a big audio difference sometimes with how much you can hear the players and fans
