  Each epoch of technology democratizes elements of society whilst also making those elements less social, less community oriented.

  Plays were a thing, then eventually cinema and drive throughs, then TV, and now watching on your device.

  Each time there’d be less interaction with people to get the supposed “result” service delivery.

  This goes not just for media and cinema, but for ALL technology camp fire -> shared candle/gas lamp -> electric lighting.

  Just for street lights in the age of lamp oil you had not only all the industry to supply wicks and oil, but also every day jobs like lamplighters and Link-boys..

  The desire seems to be singular ubermensch completely isolated travelling the galaxy with all the technological capabilities of society, but no longer needing society. The blessing of technology as our only curse.

      Thanks, and for once it’s a relief… The weird dad smoking with little girls ass on display just has very sus vibes. Makes more sense that it would be a pornified AIs impression of a 1950s ad, than an actual 1950s ad.

    Technology has a way of wearing out and breaking. Who’s going to fix all of your various machines you depend on? You? Who will machine the replacement parts, fix the code, supply the raw materials? You?

    No, we’ll always need each other. No one is an island. We can’t do everything ourselves.

      In the proposed futurist model of ubermensch via technology, technology would fix technology.

      So we’d have self-reproducing 3D technology-printers, that would self repair.

      Normally I wouldn’t say that kind of thing, but this time it’s what I meant as the theological aims of a more tech, less social “society”. It’s the argument I was laying out.

      So it was more: with enough technology every man is a sentient super powerful magical island …with no friends, no community, and no identity beyond immediate existence.

  You can still sneak in booze. I bring my water bottle in every time I go to the theater and they never check what’s inside it

  There was one a few miles outside of town when I was in HS in WI in the early 80s (it was actually very much like That 70s Show). The entire back row of cars were high school kids. And a keg or two.
