People keep forgetting the subscription based seat heating/cooling in BMWs.
You have the hardware but you didn’t pay for the subscription so you can’t use it.

So after that I don’t know why people are so surprised by the “we-are-going to-do-it-only-once-for-this-special-movie-we-pinkie-promise-never-again” event.

Seat cooling will be offered for free for a short time as an ad for the next Frozen movie, but only whole the ad is running in the central screen…

This is what all the big promises have amounted to for most people: cars that are more and more expensive, devoid of physical controls which makes vehicles less safe, and constantly monitoring everything you do with the option for manufacturers to change whatever they want in your vehicle, including sticking a Spider-Man ad in front of you and presenting it as a fun “surprise.”

    Reminds me of:

Science fiction’s superpower isn’t thinking up new technologies – it’s thinking up new social arrangements for technology. What the gadget does is nowhere near as important as who the gadget does it for and who it does it to. Your car can use a cutting-edge computer vision system to alert you when you’re drifting out of your lane – or it can use that same system to narc you out to your insurer so they can raise your premiums by $10 that month to punish you for inattentive driving. Same gadget, different social arrangement.

This is only downside of electric cars for me.

    • Overspark@piefed.social ⁨15⁩ ⁨hours⁩ ago

This has nothing to do with cars being electric, the ad was shown on modern ICE BMW’s too.

Yep, stupidity is applied to all cars.

I fully get that. I personally can accept well designed screens but I know I am in the minority.

Do you know if Telo has telemetry? Can’t find info on that anywhere.

Slate would be perfect for my current needs. Less than 25km a day, trips to buy wood for my shitty woodworking, etc. Its slated (sorry…) for 2027. Stuff too big or too far to use my bike for safely. It’s not my time.

So here in the land of geese and syrup we’ve got giant American earth destroyers or the tiny Japanese utility trucks. In between would be awesome. The Chinese EV’s with some Pickups are coming and, although the monitoring and data capture bothers me, somehow it feels the lesser of two evils compared to legacy makers with this pay to play and forced ad combination. Is that an accurate assessment?

Nothing to see here, just Capitalism doing its normal thing. Move along please…

This is all coming from people that have been buying “name brand” clothing and accessories, probably.

We’ve been trained by capitalism so long to go as far as buying big companies branded shit at exorbitant pricing just to be a walking ad.

we don’t need a revolution we need a transport restoration. back to l’ancien régime of public transport and walkable neighborhoods. la terreur des voitures has to stop.

I bought a manual from 2015 a few months back, cash in hand, and decided I’m not replacing the head unit ever. I want the car to be a time machine that sends you back to an era that sucked far less.

We were promised a [insert anything here] revolution, instead we got [same thing as before] tracking us and serving us ads.
