The difference between a manifesto and a climate report is if it is the reason something big happens
Artisian@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Honestly can’t tell which one is which. Most manifesto’s don’t do anything but social-signalling; and neither does the average climate report…

It would cause a ton of emissions
I mean… blow up an oil refinery … what do you think happens?
fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 days ago
It’s a one time event. It’s either perpetually offline, or it costs a ton of money to rebuilding. Increasing the cost to operate. Once operations costs are too much then it’s just not feasible to continue with this.

Once the oil is out of the ground, the emissions are pretty much inevitable. Somebody, somewhere, is going to burn it eventually.
Only thing you can do is to try to stop them from pulling it out of the ground.

It’s already causing a ton of emissions.

I mean, the stuff inside the infrastructure basically exists to burn, almost like it’s asking for it.
That being said, there are some very useful non-combustitory uses of crude oil. It’d be nice if its wholesale extraction could be limited to actual durable uses with less climatory impact and not just to be turned into CO2, H2O(v), and various other badder stuffs.

My first year Chemistry dissertation was about this. Of all the useful things you can do with hydrocarbons burning them is the most wasteful.

Like what? I’d love to know more.
