I know this is preaching to the converted, but I’ll write my thoughts anyway:

If you have to spend so much to convince so many of your worth, perhaps you’re simply unworthy of office.

Maybe Citizens United, flipped on its head, is its corollary. United Citizens, spending nothing, elevating representatives.

The best thing for any democracy is to stop burning time, effort, energy, resources, and money as though it was necessary. Power, twisted into an end in itself, undermines the premise of representation.

If this totalitarian, Epstein-class, trillionaire-focused, bubble-generating, war-mongering, orphan-crushing, capitalistic, red-hat-cult, machismo-laden, late-stage, ecocidal kakistocracy has taught us nothing else: representation and empowerment oughtn’t be cudgels. Representation and empowerment yield all blessings.

Custodians don’t destroy. They take care.

Hug a custodian when you can.

You reminded me of a thought from a previous post where I was trying to think of something good from Reagan. I have a friend who was very quietly the motivating force behind building a lot of the nicer parks in my town. The latest one had a big sign out front saying the funding was from the federal government. Great! he said. As long as we get the funding, my said. The good thing from Reagan, according to said friend, is that you can get good things done if you don’t care who gets the credit.

Custodians generally don’t care about credit.

I’ll be honest, i grew up looking up to the garbage men, as we knew them in the 80s. First, you got to ride around on a cool, identifiable truck. Second, you got to wave to people in the community who saw you. Third, as i grew to understand as i got older, civilization breaks down as soon as sanitation does. My parents did my best to disabuse me of a career as a sanitation technician and my body took me the rest of the way, but the two people i know who’ve worked sanitation are pretty cool.

I would like to see this same graph in Republican vs. Democrat donations.

Citizens United is terrible either way, but I am curious.

I’ll defer to the Jacobins in the French revolution.
