If you see someone take food, no you didn't.

Do you think that hungry people only need food once?

The court heard Brennan ignored the warning and “encouraged two other males to enter and steal items” before leaving without paying.

Gregg’s should be literally giving food away for free. As should every shop. Just give things to people. That way there would be no need to steal? Problem solved. I can’t believe they haven’t thought of this sooner.

If it was alcohol and cigarettes, okay, but sandwich and cookies? Come on. He clearly doesn’t have money to buy these two so lets fine him for 30 sandwiches and cookies… Makes sense.

And it is of course fitting that it is a set fine, which only serves as a burden for poor people. For rich people it would be pocket change and mean nothing.

Are we surprised that the punishment for theft is… punitive? Are we expecting that they could just pay for it and move on?

I try to not be judgemental but I saw a lady the other day running away from the shops with a bag of Haribo. Certainly if you’re that hungry stealing is the only option you’d go for something more sustaining… sandwiches and cookies are more sustaining I suppose
