A guy in my work has a work wife, and we always joke they’re banging. She retired 4 months ago. He’s been off with ‘stress’ for 3 months and 25 days.

That's not a healthy work wife relationship then. If they're jealous or hostile towards your actual spouse, that's a problem waiting to happen. They should be happy that their work partner has a good life outside work.

As someone who had (and was) a work wife: I completely agree. Hell, I was in the wedding party (on her now-husband’s side) when my work wife got married.
