They are doing it poorly, most “ugly” people in movies are just super-models with thick glasses and bad haircuts.
How do studio's get people who are so called ugly or fat or pimpled face do they just take an ad out? What about if another adaptation of Christ is done do they call up actors and just offer that role

No, there are entire agencies for ugly people. They’re not talking “nerdy girl gets a glow up” they’re talking “the hills have eyes”.

They just ask casting agencies - but the word “ugly” isn’t generally used, at least not in writing - they use terms like “unconventional looks”. Having said that, there is an actual London agency called “Ugly Models”.
