    Former server/bartender here: we don’t.

    You only really have a five minute window to check whether there is an issue with the food, so you pop the question whenever you walk by the table.

      Yeah, you can’t check when they get it because they haven’t eaten, if you wait 20 minutes it’s too late. You’re at a restaurant presumably because you’re hungry so what are you mostly doing right when the food gets there? Eating. It’s just the nature of things
