On a larger scale yes very much so. It’s mushroom zombies which gives them some cool variants and interesting ways to have threat rather than just the shambling hoard.
On a small scale is about a journey made cross country in the apocalypse by two people and their relationship.
I’d recommend both the games, though the first is better, and the TV series as very enjoyable and worthwhile.

Kinda, but more importantly it’s better (IMO, of course). Both the games and the show are better than TWD comics and all shows. TWD feels like early 2000s TV in a way, kinda janky.
As for The Walking Dead, I agree the show sucks. I haven’t read the comic books. Where it excels is the first two Clementine games. They’re adventure and “Choices Matter” games (much like Life is Strange), so they don’t really appeal to TWD fans who want more action. The first one involves a convict being taken to prison for murder when things go sideways, and he meets a little girl who is expecting her parents to come back Any Time Now. (You can guess what happened to them, and you’d be right.) She becomes the protagonist of the next two games, but I still haven’t played the third one. Despite having a little girl as a main character, the first game is gory enough. In the second game, Clementine is a bit older, maybe 12-13. In the third game, she’s a mother, she has a little boy to protect. Anyway, the games only show Hershel and Glenn from the show, and only briefly. You never meet Rick or the others. It’s strictly a spinoff, and it’s the best TWD media I’ve experienced.

I think TLoU nails elements that WD comic did good at, and the show got close to but didn’t quite nail. Mostly the human element.
Both are good, if I could only watch/play one, TLoU gets it. But lucky us we often have room for both!
I mean… In the sense that they are both zombie apocalypses? Yes.
They are a bit different in story structure and world building, tho. And I also don’t know of any TWD games that are action focused the way TLOU is. All the ones I know of are dialogue focused.

I would say the main difference is the focus. Instead of mainly fighting zombies, The Last of Us tries to focus more the human element during an apocalyptic event.

Only the first season of TWD was focused on fighting zombies. The rest are more focused on the human side.
