I’d recognize SMTIV anywhere. what a great game

I’m playing III Nocturne (PS4 HD Remake) and I’ve never seen this area nor does the game follow a 1st person POV (it’s in 3rd POV), so I’m inclined to say it could be SMT IV (althought I haven’t played it yet). I’m basically at the end of SMT III, so I feel like I would remember this area.
Tbh I thought it was Soul Hackers when I saw the graphics and POV, cause that game is a 1st person POV game where npcs are in the dungeon/overwolrd, and the city is still pre-apocaplyse. Plus that point of Soul Hackers was the phones/tech that lets you go into that digital town. But both SH and SMT IV are 3DS games, so it could be either.

So I don’t think I’ve played any of the SMT games, but I enjoyed Persona 2 and 3 a lot, are they unique enough from Persona worth exploring?

Mainline SMT games are a rather different beast. They don’t have any of the social sim elements of the Persona games, and tend to be old-school first-person dungeon crawlers, with an emphasis on exploration, the acquisition and fusing of demons, and developing a balanced team of demons to face off against the enemies and bosses you encounter in the dungeons. They also frequently feature a good/neutral/evil alignments that offers different endings, including different final bosses, depending on which alignment you wind up with as a result of the choices you make throughout the game. They’re a lot of fun if you’re into those sort of things.

They are the original. Persona is a spin off of SMT. And I guess SMT is a spin off of the original Megami Tensei?
Each one has its own story, although there are some references between them. Some of the end game choices lead to or create the realities that other games exist in.
They tend to have a bit of a different tone compared to persona. But, ultimately, you’re still collecting and fighting with demons/personas/whatever.

I’d say they are different. Specifically, no social links. You’ll meet the same monsters though. Later SMT games have a negotiation phase.

Nah it’s def IV or Apocalypse. The style is from IV and I assume apocalypse keeps it.
