My total perception of coffee changed with a French press. Not snob level, but I like coffee more because of it
Always works and tastes better

French presses are fine and all, but I think OP linked a percolator.

I’ve never had French press coffee that wasn’t too weak :/
To each their own, but mine sits unused

There’s a lot of variables for coffee. Are you using quality beans, or folgers? What kind of roast? Is the water the right temperature and the right ratio? Are the beans fully coarsely ground? Have you tried blooming the grounds first?

Hotter water and finer grind helps.
But yeah, I still find moka pot easier, especially if I’m making a single cup

I don’t care for it. When you run it through a filter you get a lot of the oils out. Pour over is the way to go imo

You can use a paper filter after french press. I would personally just do a pourover at that point, but if you are unable to achieve a nice consistent medium-fine grind then you may get the best results with an immersion brew (James Hoffman’s french press technique) poured through a rinsed paper filter

The Technology Connections guy went on like a 40 minute video about coffee percolators, and how they were largely replaced by Mr. Coffee type drip brew machines.

My dad’s got that exact style that he uses when camping. I didn’t drink coffee, but he says it’s great.

It doesn’t make the best quality, but it’s great to have a kettle around that can brew coffee.

Its bad coffee but when youre camping its god tier. There’s something about percolator coffee when out in the woods that hits just right.

I’ve drank swimming pools of coffee, and I’d probably drink tea before perc coffee.

Looks like someone wanted to build a Bialetti but in a bad way.

Espresso machine ftw

Grandma had one of those

Is this Bialetti’s redneck cousin or what?
404@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
For those uninitiated, that’s a coffee perculator.
PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 1 month ago
And it usually makes gritty, overbrewed coffee.
TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 1 month ago
It over extracts and is the perfect way to bastardize coffee. Just terrible and should probably be looked on as self harm.
Seriously, if you’re down to a percolator just put a pinch of grounds in your lip like a dip and roll.

Wait until you hear about Swedish kokkaffe
(Seriously though, I have an electric percolator and it produces nice strong coffee without overbrewing. But then again I am Swedish and I’d probably drink tar if there was caffeine in it…)
