I actually think this level of control over notifications is a GOOD thing. Trash apps will mix spam and useful notifications without a way to filter out the spam ones. Nextdoor is garbage for a lot of reasons, but granular notifications controls are not one of them. Arguably, defaulting all of them to “On” is scummy, but if they didn’t, most users would probably never know they existed in the first place without UX handholding.
Signs that your platform (Nextdoor) has turned to trash

This level of control is only good when you can bulk disable, or its opt-in. When its opt-out with individual clicks, its trash.

I stopped using it when all that happened is people were complaining about one of two things “omg, these fireworks are causing little muffy to freak out!” (Usually on the 4th of July or New Years) and “can you tell me who this stranger is walking down the public sidewalk. He even has…. a backpack!”

Nextdoor has always been a cess pool of the insane. People, with their full legal name on display, saying things that should get them arrested or exiled.

Yeah I deactivated my account and only then they offered unsub me to all notifications. Mentioned it in my reason for deactivating.

Now, go back tomorrow and see if they’re still turned off.
