  It’s like wasps and police officers. If you ignore it and pretend it doesn’t exist it most likely won’t bother you.

  Canada. No idea of the scores thing, despite being inundated by adverts about it most of my life.

  However, I can’t fathom people who’ve never had a credit card – are you living the life of a monk, still in high school; what?

  It perplexes me because I’ve had a credit card since entering the workforce and, while I’ve used it sparingly, it’s really saved my ass a few times. “Neither a borrower nor a lender be” is just adding challenges to your life you don’t need at a time when you need them least.

    Many countries just don’t do credit cards, people there pretty much only get them to access foreign goods and services.

    Credit cards rarely work in a store here so hardly anyone uses it. I only have one in case something only works with a credit card.

  Banks aren’t that strict about super high credit scores. You can have a low score and they’d still give you a loan as long as it’s not absurdly low and you don’t have a bunch of other outstanding loans and you have an income. At least in my experience, my “credit” was basically one credit card I owned for a year and the bank still gave me a loan for a house. I would not bother to stress too much about the specific number. If your credit score is so low you won’t be able to secure a loan, you’d probably know without looking anyways. Just make sure you at least have one credit card because otherwise you might not have any credit at all which can make it hard to secure a loan.

  Credit score just means how likely a lender will make money off you if they lend you money with low risk.
