I requested deletion multiple times more than a year ago. Still get stupid spam from facebook.

Change your name to something obviously fake. Years back I had my name as something that wasn’t my actual name, they asked me for my ID to verify my identity. Well, I sent them some gross pictures I conjured up from the internet and uploaded those instead of my ID and it didn’t take long for them to just completely deactivate it.

Change your email to an aliased email address. (Proton mail for instance).
Confirm it with Facebook.
Change your password to max length with max complexity.
Delete your alias email.
Forget the password.
Never log into Facebook again.

Aka how to ensure that all the data Facebook has on you never goes away. This is terrible advice.
If you’re just trying to leave Facebook I recommend going the deletion route then filtering all emails from them.
Happenchance@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Do you have a recommended deletion route?
DacoTaco@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Not good enough, sadly

I went through an manually deleted all the content from mine years ago. Would be shocked if it wasn’t mod-removed at this point for being both empty and unused

I specifically remember requesting to delete it and I haven’t been using facebook in like forever. I remember a post saying how there should be absolutely ‘no activity’ on facebook and any other linked services for meta to comply, which might explain this

Delete all your Facebook, meta, etc. cookies to make sure you’re not accidentally signing into things like articles comments etc on sites that use your Facebook account.

Try and get a deletion on most fed servers.

Most servers are ran by randos with no policy, won’t delete, and you have no legal entity to go after should you want your information deleted.

Worse than AOL in the day.
At least with them you could contact the bank and have them deny charges going forward, to stop the insanity.

I don’t know why I haven’t already, but I think it’s time I switch all of my GAFAM accounts to DDG addresses.

I am not a legal experte but in the EU you might be able to sue the now.
fastandcurious@lemmy.world 1 year ago
It’s pretty sad that only EU seems to care about the privacy of its citizens. Tbh this seems more like a right, it’s my account and i should be able to delete it whenever i want, not ‘request’ meta to delete it

None of this is an attack on you but the simple reality we live under. I don't like any of it but it is true.
Sadly, the only rights anyone has are those they receive from the nation state they belong to.
While you created it, it is on their system and I guarantee their Terms and conditions (which nobody ever reads) state they can do whatever they want when ever they want.

What else can the EU do? They can’t force an American company to follow EU regulation outside of the EU.
ChrislyBear@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Yes, in the EU, they have to comply within a month. If they don’t you’ll take it to your countries data protection ombudsman.
lud@lemm.ee 1 year ago
You can’t sue, but you can and should report it and hopefully they will fine them.
