There is one indie movie house I go to in town. It doesn’t have every amenity but the people who go to to watch movies and nothing else.
If I go to an AMC or Cinemark it’s the same every time. Concessions are outrageously prices, floors and seats are sticky, people talk and play on their phones, it’s distracting and annoying.

I love AMC. I'm in the A-Live and have been to about 5 or so AMCs this year. Only twice did I come across a genuinely bad audience, and even then, it was just one bad apple or a group of them (in one case a family brought their family dog, in another case the audience was elderly and one dude was laughing at every single scene and another audience member was scraping at food on a plate with a fork or something). I've also never had to suffer through a sticky seat.
Now, to be fair, I avoided A Minecraft Movie, but in general I really don't think movie theaters are the boisterous and rambunctious hellholes people on the internet seem to think they are.

Lucky you. That might not encompass the variables present in a proper testing pool, however…

Overtaking?
I thought streaming crushed theater going five years ago.

I stopped going regularly after the pandemic and only ever go to theaters for IMAX or Dolby worthy movies now. I’m fortunate that we have one of the largest IMAX screens in the country in my city, so it’s worth watching a good movie there. But that effectively reduces my movie theater attendance to 1 or 2 times a year.
