Why do we post screenshots of text instead of just a text post?

because an image implies it’s posted by someone else originally, it’s a part of how online communication works and you complaining about it kinda paints you as an outsider

If it was posted by someone else originally, then they can include the username and the platform layout in the screencap. Without that it does not imply it was posted by someone else originally. It implies someone is attempting to fake that it was posted by someone else originally, most likely for fake internet points in communities where text posts can’t or won’t earn those precious upvotes that an image would.

Low effort has been accepted as normalcy

I remember back in the days of Commodore 64s that you could go to Boots in the UK and just switch the price sticker from a £1.99 ‘budget games’ title with one from a full price blockbuster. No electronic point of sales data, just a bored teenager who knew fuck all operating the till. Good times. Wonder if anyone ever bout the budget game with the expensive sticker.

We used to do the same in HMV circa 98-00.
