I remember that on my LG viewty I had to download and then run some form of a file to turn the screen white for it to have a torch.
And the first time I ran it I was all “omg, this is amazing. What will they think of next!?!!”

no. my first smartphone ran android 1.6 and had a flashlight. may have been a htc-specific thing back then though.

I think so. I remember installing a flashlight app on my Samsung phones later than that. From what I can find online it was introduced into base Android until 5.0

I remember my Nexus having a colored notification LED that you could customize, i.e. for WhatsApp notification it’d be green, for SMS blue, emails red, etc.
