After all the hype about Nolan doing a nuclear explosion with practical effects, this was kind of a let down. But I guess that’s on me. I should have realised from the start that it was probably a very simple trick (disclaimer, I’ve not seen the movie, so I was just going by what was being described). It’s easy to forget that film makers spent decades doing movies without CGI, and came up with all sorts of brilliantly clever ways of doing special effects.
We RECREATED the Nuclear Explosion from Oppenheimer with ZERO CGI

Interesting take considering not having seen the movie.

Great watch. There’s something really quite magical about how mundane everyday things can translate on screen once creativity (and lots of headaches) come into play

Great video.
Also, I wonder if that dude ever got his Xbox controller instead of that stupid vase.

After seeing the movie I was pretty let down by the explosion. I kinda wished they used CGI ironically enough

yeah, for nuclear explosions I don’t think practical effects will ever look right. CGI can look incredibly realistic if they have the money for it.
