    Being a victim isn’t a choice. “Victimhood” or “vicim mentality” can be a choice.

      That is a very problematic take, though.

      Who gets to decide that a person has a “victim mentality?” If it’s not the person you’re labeling, then it’s not so much a choice they have made as it is a judgement you’ve made.

  Well the main disadvantage of victimhood is that you are a victim.

  AFAIK, other than being able to “play the victim card,” which usually ends in people accusing you of doing that, there is no advantage of being a victim.

  Pros: you get to shrug off personal responsibility, and reap the (meager) benefits of being a charity case

  Cons: you don’t grow as a person, and never accumulate much of anything important or lasting

  Being able to blame someone else for something that happens to me makes me hate myself less and reduces the amount I want to die.

  The disadvantage is that people might correctly identify their enemies and do something about it. Can’t have that!

  There is no advantage to being a victim that can even scratch the surface of the disadvantage of being a victim.

  Only people who have never really been a victim can imagine there’s anything remotely resembling an advantage.
