that ain’t even actual amercian cheese (like burger joints use)… this is the individually-wrapped ‘singles’ garbage.
BudgetBandit@sh.itjust.works 1 week ago
As a non-American, those individually-wrapped garbage is the only type of American cheese that exists over here

no wonder american cheese is shit on elsewhere.
i suppose you could go to mcdonalds or bk, order a cheeseburger with extra slices ‘on the side’ or something.

Here’s one from a food manufacturer who also has cream cheese, fresh cheeses, snacks, sandwiches etc. in my short research, this one has the most “bad stuff” in it. Currently in Austria, so Google spit out that:
www.interspar.at/shop/…/2020002469245?srsltid=Afm…
Processed cheese preparation in slices at least 35% fat in dry matter. Ingredients: cheese, water, skimmed milk powder, butter, milk protein, emulsifying salts (sodium citrate, sodium phosphate, polyphosphates), sweet whey powder, salt, acidifier: citric acid, coloring: paprika extract.
Here I have the cheapest budget version of American cheese:
www.interspar.at/shop/…/2020005305038?srsltid=Afm…
Ingredients: 50% cheese, water, skimmed milk powder, milk protein, butter, emulsifying salts (sodium citrate, sodium phosphate, polyphosphates), sweet whey powder, non-iodized salt, spice extract, acidifier: citric acid.

Wait. Aren’t these the same thing?

real american cheese is actually made from a mix of other real cheeses, processed with some other stuff into a new mixture.
american singles are usually made with such little actual cheese they can’t legally be called “cheese”.
go buy a deluxe american cheese pack and a singles pack and compare them. you will absolutely see the differences side by side.

Real American cheese is just cheese made in America.
And at least Kraft singles are just cheese with extra milk and some shit to keep it solid. It’s essentially a solidified bechamel sauce.
