If someone is a jerk. I block them. Life is to short for trivial people.
I’m here for discussions and not name calling or bad behavior.

In before "silencing people just creates echo chambers!" (ignoring the fact that I silenced nobody)
For those who are thinking this I have a simple question: When was the last time you invited someone that called you a slur out for a beer so you can "better understand their position"?

I don’t silence people who disagree with me. That’s an echo chamber. I silence those who can’t have a conversation. I wouldn’t invite those people out for a beer, you don’t feel the trolls.
Most my friends have differing opinions than I do. That’s cool. If they just wanted to hurl insults, I’d have nothing to do with them.

I block people when they insult me. After a warning that I’ll block them if they do it again. I think that’s more than fair of me. They pretty much always get blocked though. People who insult over the internet seem to think they can do it freely and without consequence, something they could never get away with when talking to people face to face.

Exactly. To me it’s people who want to hurl shit like a monkey. They add no value. They wouldn’t talk to you like that in person. I’m a conservative. I’m not extreme. Sometimes I’ll mention it to make sure they understand why I’m stating what I’m stating. Most people get it. A few will just randomly start with Nazi, traitor, etc. I’m about as moderate as they come. Slur calling just doesn’t add any value and I block them. If the best response to I’m a pro-choice republican is I’m a Nazi. I see no value for n speaking with that person

I add to that with: When was the last time you and your social circle IRL let someone with contrasting ideas hang out with you? Echo chambers are inevitable every space humans congregate and share ideas.

The most basic tribe of our ancestors is an echo chamber. That’s where religions and cultural traditions were born. They echo themselves so much that a belief system is born and passed on to new generations.
