I had the order of operations with no problems, but somehow managed to calculate 18-12 = 4 which really messed me up.
I am good at maths in theory, but tend to muddle up calculations in my head. I really need to be able to pin the numbers down on paper, in my head itâs like they wriggle around on me.

I really hate that thatâs even a thing. Logically, my brain wants to do it in the order that itâs shown in. Doing it any other way just feels unnatural. Like building a roof before building the house

Helps to isolate the problem by putting brackets round anything that you KNOW needs to be done separately.

parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction.
Thatâs how I remember it.
