  Feels like it would’ve been easier to guess if it’d been clear that it was a conversation. No one expects a sign to be talking to itself.

    Yeah, exactly. I also don’t know how common it is in other languages for slang/shorthand to match letter/word sounds. This is probably in the same bucket as languages having different animal sounds.
