Shit yeah. I will no longer feel guilty for eating half a block of cheese in one sitting.

“Osteoporosis leads to more hospitalizations annually than breast cancer, heart disease, and stroke combined”… well that’s not good.

Yup. And I have it, thanks to cancer treatment a few years ago. The good news is that there are pills you can take that will increase bone density, and these have worked for me. I now have the same bone density of someone my own age, rather than the bone density of someone 20 years older which is where I was at just 2 years ago. The pills are horrible, but better than the six-monthly intravenous infusions of the same drug. My doc tells me I’ll never have the bone density of a 30 year old male again, but he is hopeful of getting me back to the bone density of a 50 year old female. Thoroughly approve of eating lots of cheeee. And sardines, which add Vitamin D which is also a requirement for treatment. And there are now targeted exercise programs for osteoporosis which do a LOT to reduce further bone density loss.

That’s good to hear the pills are working :)
Been trying to work out how to get bone density and Vit D up for ol’ girl via soup as exercise is out the window, but everything hasn’t worked so far :(

Talk to her doc - there are once a week pills for vitamin D (I use these), but they need to be recommended by a doc. Gel capsules, that can be dissolved in something like soup. Talk to the doc as there may be other options.
The osteo pills I use are once a week and a bit of a pain and probably won’t work for your mum. I have to get these pills through an endocrinologist too. But there are alternatives, including a six-monthly intravenous infusion that has it’s own risks & benefits but doesn’t require any kind of pill.
