The DS (not 3ds) flashcart scene recently got blown up by the open source DSPico. I’ve purchased three from AliExpress at the actual, after shipping after taxes cost of $6 each. Separate purchases too, not some “3 for $18” pack.
Comment on Is the 3DS worth purchasing despite it being "obsolete" today?

The 3ds is so easily moddable, it’s ridiculous. For previous consoles, you usually need some sd card slot cartridge which is another 100 bucks on top, but the 3ds just already has that slot. So you’ll get a nice console with a lot of well done games and within 20 minutes have its whole catalogue running on it. It’s neat.

Just… Don’t put too much on there and use fat32. Or was that solved at some point of time?
(I am aware exfat works but could really easily break a few years ago and was a bitch to redo, so fat32 was the safe choice)

Any particular model of 3ds for easy modding? Is the new version the ones to get?

So, I’m not active in that community, but from what I’ve read you can easily mod literally any of them. Just pick one you like or maybe one you have a good deal for.

I have a “new xl” 3ds and have it softmodded with loads of Roms. You need a pc and a card reader. Some roms I had to convert to the right format but once you get going it was easy enough. I just never play it but thought about playing some while riding the bus to work/home.

New 3DS line is the last model that came out and 3D effect works well on it compared to others.
You can use this guide to mod it. https://3ds.hacks.guide/
I picked up the New 3DS LL which is the Japanese version, and after jailbreaking it changed the language to english.
