Where is that a problem? Where I’m from self checkouts work fine. I’m not even coming into a store unless it has a self checkout.
There is a version with a scale. Where if your item is not within the small allowed weight, it will not work. I have also seen one with a camera, and if the AI things it is the wrong item it would also lock up.
Both of these options I hate because it gets 50-75% flagged wrong, and it’s literally faster just to wait in the old fashioned que
I’m glad everyone in my country got rid of the scales, haven’t seen one in close to a decade. They just work.
So go to the queue. I don’t see the problem. We only have the scale based ones and it works 99% of the time. Because how can a packedged product weigh any different?
Our supermarket doesn’t have the scales, and let you scan in store with your phone. So it’s just a QC code and a tap to walk out, super convenient for me, and cheaper for them.
If I go to a store with a scale, I will for sure just walk straight to the manual queue.
Agreed. I use the self-checkout stations almost exclusively for at least a decade, these memes are always confusing. Only time I have a problem is when I get carded for alcohol, otherwise I’m out the door.
