There are many, many valid criticisms of social media. But when your friend mentions something they enjoy you don’t seem very nice when you tell them that what they enjoy sucks. Don’t yuck someone else’s yum.

This kind of inability to accept others’ point of view is why I don’t connect with people much anymore.
When I was younger I had lots of friends who had differing opinions and we had the openness to say “that’s fucking stupid” with each other, explain why and still remain friends.
These days you can slip up just once with a minor non-conforming opinion and people become completely unhinged. And I simply can’t take only talking about surface level topics anymore.

We’re friends, though. We’re honest with each other. I want to know his perspective even when we diverge.
So if I love pizza and he hates it, I don’t want my friend to tell me with a coat hanger smile that he likes pizza too. I want to know how much he hates it with all the adjectives he can muster.
