Humans are traditionally endurance hunters, running things down.
This should have prevented run-away belly fat storage like that.

To me, the obvious answer is that humans were omnivores from the start. We have the forward facing eyes of predators, and teeth that can handle tearing and grinding.

Yeah probably, though more opportunistic than most people probably imagine. They’d likely only hunt when convenient, during migrations or such, and switch to different food sources the rest of the year. That’s how I imagine it at least.
