what is going to be one of the biggest gaming events of our lifetimes
hahaha how do I get on the payroll for Rockstar marketing like you?
And posting genuine news about what is going to be one of the biggest gaming events of our lifetimes just gets downvoted here. Come on, people; it’s clearly relevant. You don’t have to upvote it, but then when people downvote anything they personally dislike, you end up with people who only get their gaming news here saying, “I’ve never heard of [one of the biggest games of the year].”

I’m not. It’s a statement of fact, and I don’t see the point in pretending it isn’t.
This is one of my biggest complaints about Lenny. And it has given me a new perspective on those around me in nerd spaces. 😔
Lemmy does not consist of nerd spaces though.
It’s a combination of reddit ‘refugees’ who went looking for something better(and got that for a few months) and the absolute trash that made reddit reddit and now comes to lemmy to keep behaving the same way.
And somehow all of them got banned for no reason at all. Or because the mod didn’t like them, a classic that one.
Maybe nerd is too specific. I just mean “online people” I guess. But I personally have a focus on tech, games, video, etc. It’s something I’m increasingly self aware about, after spending the time since 2020 more online. Including in synchronous online spaces.
The spaces I’m talking about felt very different to me 15+ years ago. And the synchronous space I’m talking about felt very different 9 years ago.

One of the most nonsensical things I see, the whole downvoting things that you don’t like or don’t agree with, even if it’s still being put in a negative light or the person is just curious and asking about it. Happens all over reddit, especially in comments. Obviously if someone’s stating rather than questioning and being bad faith or argumentative then I can understand it but it still happens all the time when they aren’t

Seeing as Lemmy does nothing different than Reddit on a fundamental level, it’s no surprise we see the same problems. We’re just partially shielded from some of them by way of being a smaller community.

It’s that it’s not downvoting at this point. It’s brigading. That’s what I’m really annoyed at. It’s not that people disagree, it’s that everyone dogpiles on because GTA bad must hit downvote to send it to -1000. That ruins it for those who do want to enjoy it and makes it harder to see, and then we can’t have an honest conversation about it until someone posts “hey it’s kind of annoying that it’s being brigaded”
