He was not patient. I would have gotten the women to pay and leave in less than a minute and ultimately the owner didn’t even care about the money. This cop did a shit job as an authoritarian. He wasted his time, wasted her time, and did not resolve the issue in a reasonable wauy.

I’m not doing this right now.
You think this is still optional. Fuck cops generally, but as soon as they’re engaged, you’re out of options until court. This guy was pretty patient.

So? Maybe he doesn’t behave like this towards black men, maybe he does. We can’t tell.
What we can tell is that in this exact instance, this specific cop, was really patient. What I know about training dogs and kids is that positive affirmation works wonders. So can we just for once drop the ACAB attitude and praise this cop? Who knows, maybe getting praised will feel nice, and make the cop want it to happen again.

Doesn’t matter if this one was “patient.” They’re ALL supposed to be “patient,” that’s the fucking point. Cops are not digs or children, they’re supposed to know better. The fact that he could’ve brutalized this woman and none of us would be surprised shows how much police using excessive force has been normalized.

“Maybe he does” is crazy. No.
No, I don’t think I will praise him for doing his one job sanely.
“I don’t know if you were more restrained because this was a (wealthy-seeming) white woman. Regardless, I just wanted to thank you for not escalating this like cops normally do, applying gross impositions on citizens’ rights or murdering someone.”
I would sooner accept thanking baristas for not spitting in our drinks than thank cops for the bare minimum of being a prosocial person.
He didn’t do something massive, like put himself in undue danger in the line of duty. He didn’t do something extra, like offer someone in the rain, a car ride home. Those would be something to praise him for. He sat there in authority granted to him by his uniform and did his job, as a person, instead of as a lunatic.

Do you want change? Or do you want to keep the status quo? Because if you want change, then be the change.
In a perfect world, you shouldn’t have to be mindful of training your civil servants. I mean not in any perfect world adjacent societies should you. But here we are, in a absolutely imperfect world so…
