At the main entrance to the building been just some thugs, dropping a name and a short vibe check seems totally reasonable to me. The security guy for the business was at the elevator and to me it looked like he was texting with someone to confirm.

Wait…so two unknown people just walk up and say they’re picking something up for a guy, and the dudes out front just let them in? That was so ridiculous I couldn’t keep watching

That’s, like, the least ridiculous thing that happens in a GTA game in general.

Now introducing our main character: Generic white guy!

Did you miss the drug and fast food commercials?
DarkCloud@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Yes, the deug one cut off early… The fast food one fwlt like society has already passed that level. Like, it it was on TV I would accept it as a marketing campaign.
People IRL know where meat comes from. It wasn’t like “hunt your own burger” - or “Now with the special cannibal beef”… It was Poe’s law, nothing signalling extreme parody.
…they just felt like, ads.
ampersandrew@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Oh my. If you didn’t sense the parody in those ads, I fear that satire is lost on you.
CosmoNova@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I skipped through it but there was a very obvious die hard inspired mission towards the end. I think that counts as a parody although it lacked humor in my opinion.
zikzak025@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Maybe the game itself is the parody. Like when Jeremy Strong’s character in Succession thinks he’s gangster because he listens to rap music and does drugs sometimes.

Isn’t that the premise of every cop/drug movie ever?
I kind of expected a game where you shifted between comedic versions of the current cast of social characters there are in American society today. Parodying all sides of poverty/wealth, woke and Nazis, Q-pilled Grandmas with guns, Tech Billionaires and fascists, gen-Z and gen Alpha and aging millennials… Hit us all up and make fun of it all.
I’m betting there’s no ICE deportations, flock cameras, or AI bros in the script.
Rockstar used to be a British company parodying America… Now they’re an American company, contributing to America’s corporate politics. That’s probably why this feels… Under done.
