Be a pedant about your own spelling first.
Oof, you really aughta give that a spell check once over my friend. It’s on the edge of unintelligible.

I wasn’t trying to be pedantic I legitimately had a hard time reading that.

I always find it odd how people take this kinda thing as an insult. “I can’t read what you wrote because it has too many errors” is, like, one of the first things you encounter when learning to write. It’s just a simple statement of fact. Cool it.
thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Yeah I don’t get it. I didn’t call them stupid. It’s not that they didn’t know how to spell anything, they clearly just mistyped a decent number of letters. It just needed a quick proofread.

Hypocrisy is the second thing you encounter.
leg@leminal.space 3 weeks ago
Okay? Everyone should proofread their stuff. Why does it matter If the person who says so makes a typo? They should proofread too. Proofread your stuff, or accept that people might not understand what you’re trying to say when you don’t.

I tend to read entire words at a time, and doing that your brain only really checks the first letter, last letter, and that most of the rest of the letters are actually there. That can be tolerant of mistakes like “raeding” or even “hte” but unexpected words or misspellings caused by touch screen keyboards make you stop and revert back to other, slower methods.

Yep, I definitely didn’t do that on purpose. You’re right.
I actually had a hard time reading their comment. Maybe it’s because I was just waking up, but it’s generally a good idea to at least read what you’ve typed once before hitting submit.

I fully support oughta, that’s clearly a deliberate choice and not a mistake.
