China stands as a current authoritarian model which is being championed by people like Australian economist Steve Keen.
If you can handle the ethnic genocide, the lack of due process, suppression of information and free speech, and no democracy, you can look forward to clean streets, low crime, and high economic growth. Some people believe that’s a worthy trade. I do not.

Way to learn the exact wrong lesson from china.
China does a lot of good and a lot of bad.
We need to learn the pragmatism, government investment and holding private companies accountable part from them, not the censorship and surveillance.

I fear we are doing the opposite. Worst of both worlds.
How did that old joke go?
“Quebec could have gotten French food, American tech and British culture, but instead they chose French tech, American culture and British food”

Good joke. They may have American culture, but goddamn the metal scene is fucking amazing

Do you happen to have some you can recommend? I’m trying to broaden my Metal-horizon.

Yeah, I’m at a point where I kinda hope China becomes the world overlord… I’d rather “fuck you, society comes first” than “fuck you, billionaires come first”.

China has a fuck you business comes first attitude. Most of government investment is into business not into things that help people. Their health care system is shit, theyve got a ton of poverty and low wage slavery. The standard of living is going up because it was rock bottom.

the problem is that it’s on a knife edge of if it’s truly “society first” or “the communist party and current premier first”. Just like the soviet union.
