I think that you’re right to assume that corporations do not give a fuck beyond profit. I think you’re wrong to assume that they somehow ‘knew’. Occam’s Razor dictates that they likely didn’t.

Oh no, they knew plastics were bad news. They invented recycling to shift the conversation to consumers and now our entire planet is blanketed with it.
