That’s awesome! Should be more, but a good start. Better than revising child labor laws.

I never said they didn’t deserve a higher wage but people complain about price of things. If you want living wages for all you need to be prepared to pay for it

Why can’t the family of FiveGuys (all brothers) take less profit, pay their people a reasonable wage, and keep their prices reasonable for their customers?
Why have we accepted that customers have to pay more, and workers have to receive less, just so a few people can become even more obscenely rich that they are now?
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
They should take less profit but that’s the broken system we’re in
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 weeks ago
That’s no excuse. They could keep prices the same, and collect less profit.
That’s the problem, Americans have accepted that they should take the cut in pay to make the corporate ownership wealthy, even if it means their own lives are miserable.
Instead, workers should be demanding that 75% of the corporate profits that THEY EARNED, should be distributed to the workers on a quarterly basis. Ownership will learn to learn to live on what’s left.
That’s what UNIONS are for.

I’m with you there, corporations shouldn’t be able to hoard the wealth that they do
jumjummy@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Minimum wage should absolutely be a livable wage. Go direct your comments to the billionaire class stealing all the wealth.
Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
I agree, not sure why everybody assumed I didn’t think people didn’t deserve a living wage. I do. But at the same time be prepared to pay more for things because we all know that corporations will pass along the better wages to the consumer. God forbid the ceo make less and not making record profit
jumjummy@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Even if you didn’t intend for that comment to come across that way, just know that the reasoning of “prices are going up because of minimum wage” is the go-to talking point of the “conservatives”. Magically the wealth disparity, negligible marginal tax rate on billionaires, or record profits never seem to be mentioned.

I do believe that’s what it used to mean at one point. And it wasn’t just a livable wage as in “well, you won’t die,” like it meant something. Now, it’s simply the lowest amount these companies are legally allowed to pay you w/o using loopholes.

Chris Rock said that Minimum Wage is your boss telling you that he wants to pay you less, but IT’S AGAINST THE LAW!
