Thank you for this comment, helps put some things in perspective for me. Nice to see some more nuance on the internet too.

Yeah pretty much anything can fuck up your body if you do too much of it for too long in the wrong ways.
Weed can be behaviorally addictive even though it doesn’t cause the same kind of neurochemical dependence. Caffeine is just literally a stimulant narcotic and nobody talks about how insane it is that it and nicotine are just legal for some reason when a bunch of other stimulants that also cause heart problems aren’t. Running is great cardio but it can fuck up your knees if you run on the wrong surfaces and wear the wrong kind of footwear. Let your kid play the wrong video games and suddenly you have a 10y/o with a gambling addiction.
You gotta pay attention to all the shit you’re doing pretty much all of the time to catch whatever your ‘thing’ is gonna be before it damages your body permanently. It’s exhausting. That’s the main thing rich people have over poor people health wise. They get enough time off from both work and domestic responsibility to watch that kinda stuff and intervene with a different coping strategy when it’s getting out of hand. Sure not all of them take advantage of that but that’s a personal problem at least they have the time to do it if they want to.

Because they’re largely harmless. Being a stimulant isn’t bad, there’s nothing insane about that.

While true, the person you replied to isn’t completely wrong. When I first got my ADHD medication I had to leave out all stimulants to see how the medication works. I had the most brutal headache and no amount of ibuprofen worked. I had to reduce the caffeine intake gradually to be able to function again.
Weed definitely is addictive. I function way better without it, but it’s just too good to leave out.

Also, caffeine addiction is relatively easy to overcome. Nicotine addiction isn’t and tobacco, its main source, contains tons of other crap, which is why governments have been running anti-smoking campaigns for decades but keep their actions against caffeine to “don’t give energy drinks to minors” and “please don’t sell premixed alcoholic caffeinated beverages”.
