Fun fact. If you find money or valuables and no way to find the owner. Take it to the police department, and after 3 months or so it becomes your property if no one claims it. At least in the US.

I tried that with a ring. They never filled the paperwork to release it back to me and instead sold it at auction and kept the proceeds.
