Would be cool but with how IP law works (USA based) they could lose control if enough derivative works come out where it could be claimed its public domain. Failure to protect the IP can cause forfeiture.
But fuck the billion dollar companies, if you arnt using it just give it to us. Give up the Chrono Trigger IP Square so we can have that awesome 3D remake that was being worked on long ago.

On one hand, I love that they’re silently letting the fans do what they want without getting involved. On the other hand, I totally agree that it’s surprising they don’t lean harder on the fanbase. SEGA hired fans to make Sonic Mania which turned out great. Capcom could straight up take Megaman Maker and sell it for $30 or something, it’s one of the best free games out there and I’m surprised they haven’t tried buying it from the devs.
