PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 3 weeks agoI have straight up not used incognito since I was maybe 13 years old. Are yall really just handing off your devices to other people?

I use it regularly for “this isn’t something I’m going to be looking at/for again” type searches

Under what circumstances? That’s a genuine question. I can’t think of a single time in my life I’ve ever handed someone my phone’s internet browser to look up something

It only takes a few taps to go from a meme, video, or picture you’re showing someone to the browser.
Didn’t have smart phones when I went to college, but I had some friends who prided themselves on how fast they could get to browser history on an “unattended” laptop, as in, I turned around to talk to someone else for ~60 seconds.

phone: showing pictures, letting them read some text, an article, basically anything i would send if we were not sitting next to each other. also letting them navigate when we’re outside with a map. and letting them call or text someone when they don’t have battery or connection.
laptop: mostly playing movies or letting them play games.
it’s usually my friend and they wouldn’t do anything bad with my device, but there was this one guy in a group who wasn’t really a friend and he looked at my gallery. that taught me a lesson, although he didn’t find anything interesting.
with games and movies on a laptop it’s worse, because that’s sometimes for some kids. luckily they can’t really use my custom linux keybinds.

Probably have to identify at least a hundred crosswalks too.
