The one build I see in this thread is within $100 of the Steam Machine with comparable specs, without the form factor. I’d call that competitive. But if you disagree, they’re also releasing the ISO for SteamOS, as they’re more confident in broad compatibility, so if you were ever in the market for such a machine, you can save the $100.

The moment I read this article. There’s already plenty of other replies with parts lists posted in the crossposted threads, as well.

Inclusing features like CEC?
Co sideeing where it should be placed, that could be very important to some.

Sure if you want to spend extra money on an external controller just so your smart TV can turn it on/off/change to the right channel when you turn on the PC.
Is that worth an extra $150-200 for anyone?

i mean, i spent that much on the sound controller for my system, but i am my father’s child and need my 5.1 at least. that center channel is really helpful for picking up dialog in shows that have shitty audio balancing (do not get me started on modern film and tv) and the woofer is necessary if you are in the Deaf community and want your friends to visit.
the fact that when i turn on my playstation it jumps to the playstation input because i don’t know… i think the setting is called ARC? that’s just a plus.

Yep, that’s ARC (Audio Return Channel)
