For anyone wondering these are, legally speaking, ebikes. As in they squeezed a delivery truck into the legal definition for a bike to be able to use bike lanes.

Can bikes park in bike lanes?
FUCKING_CUNO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 week ago
Beats the fuck outta me, but I wouldn’t have thought those delivery vehicles would have been “bikes” either, fucko

In Europe these ‘cargo bikes’ are being accepted quite well. I don’t mind them. They’re slow, low carbon footprint, child safe… So why not? They do take up a lot of space but that’s because the cycle path is too narrow. More cyclepaths so cargo can be delivered by bike. That’s what we need.

The bike lane is usable. I mean, for about a half-a-block at a time, cause of the parked cars.
I wish NYC would allow citizens to take a video of a car parked in the bike lane for more than a minute, issue a ticket, and make it profitable for the ticket issuer. All of the problems would go away overnight.
And actually, I wish we could take videos of cars going through red lights. Or, LOL, illegal u-turns. “Go around the block” is not a thing anymore. Everyone just turns around wherever the fuck they are.

If it’s like www.youtube.com/watch?v=483oaUU1tIs then the entire vehicle is built to the exact limits of e-bike laws. For example you can theoretically propel that thing by pedalling even if it is never intended that the ‘rider’ would do so.

Park?

probably like the ones mentioned here rolling out in d.c.:

Well then we need to change the definition of ebikes. Either that or we only allow private personal vehicles to use the bike lane.

maybe better to consider them bikes encourage their use and replace more car lanes with bike lanes.
They are still better than cars.
groet@feddit.org 1 week ago
That would mean a bike courier / delivery driver on an actually real bike would not be allowed anymore
Fontasia@feddit.nl 1 week ago
In the Netherlands, delivery vehicles use bike lanes all the time, however, these are made by local manufacturers that aren’t as big as this
For Example

There should be a common sense rule to laws. Like, sometimes you look at sobering ABS it’s obviously not right
