I’m glad for everyone that enjoyed this game and found a meaningful experience in it. Kind of wish it could’ve been the same for me. I found the whole experience, from combat through story, to be horrendous by any standard, and quit midway through. Then someone begged me to come back and give it a full shot. So, I completEd it all thE way to the Ending, and it got even worse.
Anyway, hopefully you do enjoy it; I could probably give a full-paragraph diatribe on what didn’t work for me, but art can be very subjective.
So here I am much further along in the game than when I started this thread and holy shit I am done with this mess.
The game mechanics are maddening, The save, travel and death mechanics are just utter shit. The vagueness of the story and the endless wandering around just isn’t worth it.
Finally I just can’t deal with the best visual in the game thus being 2B’s rock hard ass. I love a rock hard ass a much as the next guy but good lord I cant take the upskirt views of this thing seriously…
There’s a little bit of vindication in having a shared opinion, but also kind of sad that the game ended up feeling like a waste of time.
In terms of being fun while also approaching some of the same robo-philosophy story beats, I did find Stellar Blade really fun. That game exists mainly for the combat, although you get lots of costumes; so it’s a nice approach if you find one given outfit oversexualized.
Yeah I had the same experience. I played it all the way to all endings, thinking “the incredible game everyone talks about is right around the corner”, but it never came. Art design is great, plot is OK although hamfisted, gameplay is fairly trash, and weeb shit everywhere became a turnoff.

The game is a true masterpiece, one of the best works of art I’ve ever experienced. The pacing and story were amazing, even the boring and annoying parts are perfectly seasoned with new information so that your interest and investment to the story deepens
It’s a world and a story that flows like music, repeating the same melody over and over with new instruments joining in and swelling with each repetition. It constantly adds new information that recontextualizes the story entirely with masterful timing
I also don’t recommend the game to people. It was perfectly tuned in a way that no longer works, it was made for society a decade ago. Sadly, I don’t think you can get the same experience anymore… We just aren’t the same as we were then

I don’t know why you recommend games to people, but I do it so others can find enjoyment. I had a deeply meaningful experience from the game that I like talking about, but I also think it won’t hit the same in 2026. I just don’t think others will have that kind of experience with nier in the current media environment.
It sounds hard to be so insecure in your own tastes that you need external validation

It’s the worn out story of the fanboys never being able to let other people dislike their favorite thing. If you can’t understand how that’s shitty, then it’s a you problem. Fuck off.

No. The kind of Mean Girls esque “polite assholery” of the previous comment needs to be addressed and called out for what it is.
The people that make those kinds of comments think they’re being nice when they really aren’t. If nobody points it out to them in a way that sticks out they’ll just keep doing it
